GE Speedtronic Mark VI control system
GE Speedtronic Mark VI control systemGE (General Electric) turbine control systems are known as Speedtronic, which is the most famous programmable logic controller in the world. This brand is one of the oldest brands in the world in terms of market share, sales and also the number of installed of this controller among turbine controllers.
The main manufacturer (GE) has produced various products from Mark I, Mark II, Mark III for steam turbines and Mark IV, Mark V, Mark VI and Mark VIe for gas turbines, but the products up to Mark IV version are from the production category and Has outsourced parts supply and only manufactures and supplies parts for Mark V and later systems. Currently, the manufacturer’s main focus is on the Mark VIe control system, and it uses this system exclusively on its new units.
Mark V and Mark VI systems use both Simplex and TMR architectures and have three controllers R, S and T, but the Mark VIe control system uses Duplex architecture in addition to the above two architectures.
The Speedtronic Mark VI control system has all the necessary specifications for controlling, protecting and monitoring the turbine.
Existence of very powerful processors, high exchange speed using Ethernet in the control layer, very high quality and compatible architecture are the advantages of this control system. In addition to the turbine control system, a separate control system is used to protect the turbine.
This control system is an ideal system for integrating multiple turbines in one power plant. The design of Speedtronic Mark VI control system has been done with the close cooperation of engineers in different parts of GE turbine design and the use of this control system will lead to the optimal performance of the turbine.
Architecture Control System (Architecture)
This control system is the first modular control system of GE company and therefore it is easier to troubleshoot and replace cards than previous systems. In each row, all the cards are placed on the rack and are connected to the central controller through the interface module. SMT technology is used in making the cards, which has a higher technology than previous systems.
Triple Module Redundancy
The Speedtronic Mark VI control system provides the highest access and protection by creating Triple Redundancy in large and small projects. In this control system, there are three separate parts, each of which has a power module (Power Supply), central processor (Processor) and input and output cards (I / O Module). This technology was first introduced in 1983 by GE, and now the third generation of this technology is used in this control system. Highest availability for important protection signals such as over speed, vibration and. . . Provided with this feature.
Input and output cards (I / O Module) designed in this control system cover a wide range of signals. IO modules are divided into two categories:
General Purpose I / O
Application Specific I / O
General Purpose I / O
Designed as digital (Discrete I / O) and analog (Analog I / O) modules and temperature monitoring modules.
Application Specific I / O
These modules have the ability to connect directly to sensors and actuators (ACTUATOR), which eliminates many electronic components and INTERFACE cards and increases the reliability (ratability) of these important signals. The above modules are used in the following cases:
- Speed (Pulse Rate) Inputs
- Flame Detection
- Trip System
- Servo Valve Interface
- Three phase PT and CT monitoring
- Vibration / Proximate Inputs
- Optical Pyrometer Inputs
Speedtronic Mark VI control system has a very advanced user interface (HMI) which consists of the following parts:
- SIMPLICITY software for user interface in graphic pages
- Control System Toolbox software for Maintenances
- Software Interface for communication with the hardware network
All parameters and status of variables are visible in graphic pages. Also, all alarms that occur in the turbine can be viewed and stored. In order to better monitor the variables, it is possible to create a trend. It is also possible to increase the level of access to graphic pages and command the turbine for different users (USER) to increase security.
To communicate with other systems and with DCS, different communication protocols can be used in the Speedtronic Mark VI control system:
- MODBUS RS232 / 485
- MODBUS TCP / IP
- Ethernet TCP-IP
In this system, each card up and down the inputs is automatically checked and the breakdown or defects of the card are automatically detected. All items are registered in the alarm management department and can be transferred to the DCS system if needed.
The cards also have LEDs with different colors to indicate the defects of the card.
The control system can be used with both common power ranges in industry, ie 120 / 240VAC.
